TIME TO HIT THE SLOPES - ARTICLE
There’s nothing quite like a ski holiday… fresh air in the lungs, good solid exercise and of course cocktails by the fireplace at night. Need any more encouragement? Here are five reasons to head to Perisher Valley right now!
1. The white stuff
The NSW ski season has had been good so far this year, but thanks to a few recent cold fronts, low temperatures and some big snow falls conditions are now excellent. It looks like staying this way for the rest of the season too so if you can escape the daily grind for a few days – do it! Perisher Valley is five hours south of Sydney and it offers everything you need for an amazing winter holiday. It’s the biggest ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere with around 3,000 acres of skiable terrain which cater for all ability levels.
2. The Perisher Valley Hotel
The best spot to stay on the mountain is the Perisher Valley Hotel. Its location is the most convenient with ski in ski out facilities and it’s connected to ski hire, shops, bars and restaurants meaning you don’t have to go out into the cold to get yourself sorted for the day.
3. Alpine Eyre
After a solid morning of skiing you’ll be in search a big mountain lunch to get you back out onto the slopes. If you head over to Mt Perisher you’ll find the Alpine Eyre burger restaurant at the bottom of the Eyre T-Bar. It may not look like much, but it is well worth the trek over to that part of the mountain for lunch as they have the best burgers in town. The runs in that area are awesome too especially if there’s a bit of wind around because they are the most protected.
4. Base Bar at The Manor
Once you’re off the slopes for the day head to the Base Bar at The Manor for a pre-dinner cocktail in front of the fireplace. It’s modern, the staff are fabulous and it’s a great spot to mingle with fellow travellers. The restaurant in The Manor is also beautiful so if you’re staying on the mountain for a few days definitely book in for a lunch or dinner.
5. Snow Gums Restaurant
For a first class a la carte dinner on the mountain you can’t go past Snow Gums. On Tuesday and Saturday nights it serves a buffet style dinner due to night skiing on the mountain, but every other night it is a la carte and the chefs are brilliant. The menu is Modern Australian cuisine and it’s capped off with helpful staff and live music.
